Had it really been two years since we picked in the campground at Sedalia? That was the question Friday night prior to the festival as we started our jam session that would go well past midnight and into the next morning. Such is the life of folks who enjoy and play Bluegrass music.
The last 18-20 months have been trying for all of us, so it was energizing as we entered the first Bluegrass show on the 26th of June. Bands had been selected, advertisement and advance ticket sales, stage and sound systems in place, vendor spaces identified, parking and camping spots marked off, volunteers identified and where they would work during the show. Many hours of preparation spent to give the fans the best possible experience post COVID-19 and boy did it pay off!
Several hundred folks were on hand as “The Guard”, “The Little Mt. Boys” & “Goff Mountain” entertained on a day with perfect weather for any outdoor venue. Fans young and older were able to enjoy the comradery of live music for the first time in a very long time. As the MC of the show I spent time with each band, vendors and fans and to a person they could not have been more pleased with how things turned out.
So, we have a pretty high bar to top this festival but as 2022 approaches I think we are all up to the task of presenting a fun and lively event that everyone will enjoy. Thanks to each and every one who helped make this event successful and look out 2022!
