Part-Time Living Arts Afternoons Counselor

The Sedalia Center is seeking a dependable, caring, and energetic part-time Living Arts Afternoons Counselor to support our after-school program for local children. Living Arts Afternoons is a free after-school program that offers art, outdoor learning, music, hands-on activities, games, and time for children to play, explore, and build friendships in a safe and welcoming environment. The Counselor will work alongside the Living Arts Afternoons Program Director, teachers, and volunteers to help support the children and ensure the afternoon runs smoothly.

Schedule:
Wednesdays, 2:00–6:00 p.m.
September through May
This program follows the Bedford County Public Schools calendar. When Bedford schools are closed or on vacation, Living Arts Afternoons is also closed. The program does not operate during the summer.

Responsibilities include:

• Assisting with program setup and cleanup
• Welcoming and supervising children
• Supporting children during art, outdoor play, games, snack, and other activities
• Helping children transition safely between activities
• Assisting the Program Director, guest teachers, and volunteers as needed
• Encouraging positive behavior and respectful participation
• Providing gentle but clear guidance and boundaries
• Helping maintain a safe, organized, and welcoming environment

Ideal candidate will be:

• Dependable and consistent
• Patient, kind, and comfortable working with children
• Gentle in manner, while able to provide calm authority when needed
• Willing to actively engage with children through games, play, and hands-on activities
• Comfortable spending time outdoors
• A good communicator and team player
• Local to the Big Island/Sedalia area or familiar with the community is a plus

Because this position involves working with children, a background check will be required.

This is a paid, part-time position.
