Free Open House event to celebrate the launching of the Counter Ridge History Project to recover the history of the site and the Sedalia settlement in general.
The day will feature the opening of an exhibition of regional African American Art curated by Veronica Jackson, which will run through mid August.
Gospel Choirs Infinite Praise and members of the Sharon Missionary Baptist Church will bless the morning, and young people’s original poetry and performance will dedicate the Counter Ridge Stage. Afternoon theater from JLP Productions, and traditional African dance by the Kuumba Dance Ensemble of Lynchburg will precede an evening concert by IV Shades of Blue.
The day will mark the opening of the Counter Ridge History Room, a permanent repository for the mementos of a scattered and disregarded past and an archive of the History Project’s first Oral History interviews. Two interviews will play in the History Room.
The event is free and open to the public.
