ANIMAL PAVILION: Our covered pavilion becomes a stable of gentle and beautiful beasts. Enjoy the animals, connect with farmers, make contacts. Otter Peaks Alpacas; Steve & Barbara Rezzonico (Dexter cattle, Red Wattle hogs, mules; Freddie & Susan Massie, goats, mules; Barry Miles, rabbits, more. Plus Parade of Horses; Wagon Rides.
ENERGY: Talk to the area mavens of alternative energy. ROGER BEALE on residential wind /solar hybrid, (+power point Rm. 1, 1pm); Virginia Center for Wind Energy at JMU, model turbine, MARK HANSON, solar energy and electric vehicles. Learn about energy-saving options for your home from our energy conservation vendors.
THE NATURAL WORLD: Learn about nature’s pollinators. Spikenard Farm Honeybee Sanctuary, Ms. Bonnie Miles on Bats, Bedford Area Master Gardeners, Central Virginia Master Naturalists, Claytor Nature Study Center.
TIPI ENCAMPMENT: TIPI ENCAMPMENT: Wander down the hill to the Walk of Poems and spend some quality time. Plains tipi; Ben Coleman’s family milk cow and her calf; Earth Reconnect demonstrating primitive skills. “Meeting the Wild Medicinal Plants”:special guest Robert Wooding, RN, BSN, of Southern Virginia Herbals, Halifax, VA, will lead a plant walk (or two) and talk about sustainability and ethical harvesting, and the fundamentals of drying plants and making salves and tinctures. First walk, 11:30 am. Come to the Tipi Encampment to see the specimens he’s brought and to join the walks and conversation.
