14th Annual Chili Cook-Off!
Chili gourmets and not-quite-gourmets will once again gather at Sedalia Center on Saturday, October 30, 2010, to do battle with their best chili recipes. Join the fun as companies, organizations, and individuals compete for trophies and bragging rights to the title of Best Chili! The Sedalia Center gratefully acknowledges The Bank of the James as the major sponsor for this event.
Tastin' begins at High Noon. Chili teams start cooking on-site beginning in the wee hours of Saturday morning. The 4-person teams typically have lighthearted themes, but are completely serious about their chili recipes. A panel of judges will decide Best Tastin' Chili (1st, 2nd, and 3rd place tropies are awarded) and Best Presentation. Chili tasters will vote for their favorite team to win the coveted People's Choice Award.
In addition to great chili, there will be great musical entertainment provided by Work Release. The event takes place rain or shine. Advance tickets (available through this website through Friday, October 29) are just $10; admission at the gate will be $15. Advance tickets will be available at the Bedford and Forest offices of Bank of the James in October.
Think you've got a pretty good chili recipe? Have you got a company or organization that could benefit from getting their name in front of the public? Form a team and come on out and cook some chili! The application fee is just $10.
Team Information
1) Teams may consist of up to 4 people.
2) All cooking must be done on-site, although you may chop and prep the food in advance.
3) Teams are asked to cook 8 gallons of chili each.
4) Teams provide their own tent, tables, chairs, heat source, and cooking utensils. Sedalia provides the tasting cups, spoons, napkins and judging cups. Access to electricity may be provided upon request.
5) Each team will have one 10' x 10' space. Teams may select their space beginning at 3pm on Friday, October 30th. A limited number of spaces will have access to electrical hook-ups. If you require electricity, please let us know!
6) Due to ABC requirements, no alcohol may be served by the teams to the public.
